When I was in 3rd or 4th grade, I got a little monthly allowance from my mother, during that time I was living in Osaka, and there was so much available rental manga in the bookstore.A lot of these mangas contained violent imagery and stories, adult thriller manga I guess you could call it… I think these manages were influenced by cheap action movies that were produced by Nikkatsu co., that were known for churning out trashy violent movies…

Now as an adult I think that this played an enormous subconscious influence on the development of my manga for adults. I found myself blowing all of my monthly allowance on these manga! I found the art of rental manga so realistic , and more engaging than the weekly manga specifically aimed at boys.

This made me realize that there was a big gap between my childish drawings and the quality of the artwork of this amazingly realistic rental manga.
