So many artists made the transition from amateur to professional through the monthly magazine COM… an they were mostly all 5 or 6 years older than me…even now they are still working in the field, and not retired like myself! Its amazing! In our field there were so many manga artist who got burned out at such as early stage in their career because it’s such a cut throat field… it was so competitive…as I remember it, you are forced to go neck and neck every year with hot new manga artists, who supposedly have the next best style or creation, etc.
Veteran got debut from the age when we didn’t have many manga magazines…probably one twentieth of the amount of the magazine.
Back then we only had 5% of the amount of manga magazines that we do now!
Today though, the industry is colossal! I still think there is a lot we can learn from them.
I will be 58 this September but I think I am still a greenhorn compared with the old hand veterans.
