I sent my original works which I had been drawing for a long time to the professional manga artist, who could become my future mentor… he changed his working place to newly published weekly magazines, and was looking for a new assistant… There was a particular requirement to send detailed background manga artwork… instantly I began dreaming of the life in Tokyo… there was no question that I could not embrace this, I would have to be a fool not to want to go for it!
I had all the faith and confidence that I was the best fresh new manga artist in all of Osaka! …or maybe even… the best one in Japan!! `stupid! You snotty nosed brat!
Do you actually know how big Japan is! What makes you think you are the best! Silly naïve kid!`- I thought to myself… I got a letter… from the manager of Nanba Kenji (who was a major icon in the rental book industry at the time)…with a stroke of luck they decided they actually wanted me, and, I was hired!
The manager mentioned to me that there was 800 applicants, and in the end and I was one of two that was selected…`you got it right kid! I told you so!` - I chirped to myself!
